GAME ON!
What an awesome Journey launch week we had last week! We have Journey events on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. One newcomer to CLC told us that she was absolutely thrilled with the choices we had to offer her to connect with other people.
CONNECT GROUPS & EVENTS
A huge shout out to our Connect Group leaders plus our Men’s, Women’s, Singles, and Couples Network teams who are making things happen to connect people through fun activities. Information does not build the kingdom, relationships do.
JOURNEY INSERT
Our Journey insert debuted last Sunday in the bulletin. Each week you can use this insert as a handy reference guide to invite newcomers you may encounter to get connected. You can find it all on one sheet of paper or at www.clctn.org/journey.
TABBETHA MULLER - JOURNEY AA
Tabbetha can be found each Wednesday evening in the church office faithfully cranking out Journey projects. Next time you see her at her post, tell her thanks!
SANCTUARY PRE-SET UP
Shout out to Pastor Jim who pre-set up the sanctuary last Wednesday night for the Journey launch. We will be doing it one final time this Wednesday. We will put the signs on the leader’s seat one last time. After this Wednesday, Journey leaders will be responsible for the group circle set up and take down. Please take special care to put the seats back in the order in which you found them in the area that your group meets.
GS1 & JLE IN WORSHIP GOING FORWARD
Last Wednesday Grow Series 1 & Journey Leader Essentials met for an orientation at the CLC Ministry House. This week, we will be joining you for worship adding another 50 people for worship at 6:30pm in the sanctuary.
JOURNEY DC CHILDCARE SUPPORT
We want to thank Adam Lindsey’s group for providing support to Upstreet this Wednesday night. We rotate our Journey Discipleship groups through serving in Upstreet as part of their discipleship training. We serve better together!

Headline News - 9/2/14 - Launch Week
IT’S GO TIME!
Tonight begins the rollout of the Journey Fall Trimester! We
begin with the “Model Man” workshop with a dozen men. Wednesday, our
discipleship coaching groups finish out their last trimester, and our focus
& connect groups launch. Friday, our ladies focus groups are debuting for
the Fall with wonderful leaders, wonderful group members, and wonderful
curriculums.
ONLY 13 WEEKS TO
GRADUATION
You are on the home stretch of your Journey Discipleship
Experience! Let’s determine to finish strong. We will be waiting on you at the
finish line to celebrate you with all sorts of honors.
REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED
We are no longer accepting registration for our focus
groups. The Journey Connection online form has been modified accordingly and
our web site has now hidden the focus group pages.
WED NIGHT HEADS UP
Pastor Jim and I will be setting up the sanctuary with
pre-configured meeting areas for all groups tomorrow afternoon. For the first
time, we will be hosting our focus groups, connect groups, discipleship
coaching groups, and Get Connected Group in the same room at the same time.
This will take some skill to organize and allow it to flow tomorrow evening. I will
print out a schematic of group locations to be handed out at the door and each
circle will be labeled with the group leader(s) names.
Please plan on arriving early – 6:15pm would be ideal if
possible. We will have worship as normal. After worship, the pastor that opens
the service will release people to their groups.
THANK YOU MIKE DUGAN’S GROUP
Shout out to Mike Dugan’s DC group who will be serving in
Upstreet this week!
GROW SERIES 1
Did you know we have close to 30 people in GS1 including
leaders David & Deanna Fullerton / Larry & Pam Wiley? This is awesome.
This group will begin at 6:30pm sharp at the CLC Ministry House.
JOURNEY LEADER ESSENTIALS
JLE has about 21 amazing leaders meeting at the CLC Ministry
House at 6:30pm sharp in the Conference Room on WEDs. We have some established
& emerging leaders we will be releasing soon in the Journey.
WOO HOO!
God is so good to us at CLC! The Journey Fall Trimester is
at the starting gate and the fun has fired today! It’s off to the races!

THANK
YOU
Thanks
to all of your for your patience as our normal Wednesday night schedule has
been disrupted this Summer. This is unprecedented and we will work hard to
prevent such a disruption in Journey meetings in the future.
UPDATE
ON RICHARD DETWILER
I just
had the wonderful pleasure of speaking over the phone with Richard & Donna
at St. Thomas – Mid Town Hospital. Richard is recovering from a brain aneurysm
incident. His procedure last Monday was successful and today he was sharp as
ever and talking about CLC people and Journey focus groups in our conversation.
This couple are troopers and are so committed to the body of Christ and kingdom
of God. Please continue to pray for Richard’s complete and thorough recovery.
If all goes well, he should be released from the hospital this week.
VBS
SETUP
Thanks
in advance to those of you who will come out this Wednesday evening to help set
up for our huge VBS summer outreach scheduled for this weekend. This is a
tremendous opportunity for children in our neighborhood and beyond to come and
receive the gospel at a level of their understanding. VBS is always tons of fun
for the kids and more importantly a prime opportunity for young people to meet
Christ as their Lord and Savior. Remember, an adult never stands so talk as
when they stoop to help a child.
If you
would like to come out and pray or help set up, please join the CLC family and
pitch in. If you would like to volunteer to serve in some capacity this weekend
in VBS, contact Renae at rluketic@clctn.org.
GRADUATION
DINNER
Plans
are in full swing to honor our graduating discipleship coaching groups:
·
Amanda
Carrol/Pam Wiley
·
Mickie
Porter
·
Larry
Wiley/Randall Broad
·
Chris
Muller/Austin Carroll
The
catered meal is scheduled for delivery, graduation t-shirts are ready to award,
your letters from the Advisory Team are written, tables are already set up. All
we need is our graduates to arrive at 6:15pm at the CLC house on Wednesday,
July 30th. We have some surprises in store for you!
For
those groups that are not graduating, you may feel free to meet off-site or
join Cliff Sharp in the sanctuary as he completes his 2-part series on
Greenhouse Ministries.
SHOOTING
UP A FLARE! NEW COUPLE TO CLC NEEDS HELP!
I met
a lady at the Discover Lunch yesterday named Kisha whose husband is driving a
moving van from New York to Murfreesboro this week. I asked her who was helping
her unload and they don’t know anybody in our town. I gave her my cell # and
asked her to call me when she knew when he would be arriving. Wouldn’t it be
nice if we could get up a group from CLC to go over and help them unload their
moving van? Would you be willing to do that? If you would email me, I will text
you time and address for your GPS to drop by and lend a helping hand. What an
opportunity to make a good impression to this new family to our community. No
strings attached just the love of God manifest in a practical way!
WOMEN’S
CONNECTION BRUNCH
Ladies,
mark your calendars to attend to the Women’s Connection Brunch on Saturday,
August 2 from 10-11:30am at the church sanctuary. Ladies are asked to bring a
breakfast side dish and the main course will be provided. There will be lots of
fellowship fun time plus an “preview of coming attractions” time to let ladies
know how you can get connected in the Fall. Here’s what I’d like to ask –
please use your influence as a leader at CLC and invite ladies you know are not
connected, new to the church, or in your friendship circle to come with you to
this event. The personal touch is how we are going to populate our Journey
groups this Fall and build kingdom relationships. Please sign up for this event
at this link here.
MEN’S
ROUND UP TIME
Brothers,
please plan on coming to the Men’s Round Up Time on Saturday, August from
NOON-3pm at the church sanctuary. We will be having corn-hole toss, a Chili
Cook Off, and also sharing a “preview of coming attractions” for men to connect
this Fall. Please plan on coming and bringing some men with you that you would
like to see go to a Men’s Freedom Weekend, get involved in a Journey group, or
attend our upcoming Men’s Retreat with Hal Santos late August. Please sign up
for this event at this link here.

THANK
YOU
Always
thankful for being in relationship with you and doing a great work for God
along-side of you.
REMEMBER
RICHARD
Richard
Detwiler, our Focus Group Leader Captain (along with his wife Donna) is
undergoing a surgical procedure putting a stent in his brain to stop an
aneurysm as I type this note to you. As you read this, please stop for a moment
and breathe a prayer for him and Donna. They will need our prayers and
encouragement in the days and weeks ahead as we trust God for Richard’s full
and complete recovery.
EXTRAORDINARY
CIRCUMSTANCES
As I
announced at church yesterday, due to the death of CLCer Terry Patient, we will
be having his funeral viewing this WED from 10am-4pm and the funeral at 4pm.
The family will need to use the facility and campus after the funeral so we are
having to cancel the normal service, Student Ministry, and Journey meetings.
Journey groups are encouraged to meet offsite on WED or at an alternate time.
Please don’t allow the interruption of our schedule to prevent you from
finishing the Summer Trimester strong.
VBS
SET UP NIGHT
Next
Wednesday, July 23rd, we are inviting all Journey groups who are
able to please come and help set up the entire church building for VBS which
will occur the weekend of July 25-26. Thank you for your kind patience
everybody as we work together as a family on this community outreach in the
Year of Missions.
JULY
30TH
The
last Wednesday of the Summer Trimester is going to be an exciting night for us
at CLC. Here’s the plan:
·
Graduation
Dinner at the CLC Ministry House for the 4 groups who will be graduating (this
will replace the traditional “Celebration Service” this trimester
·
There
is a 99.9% chance that Cliff Sharp will be concluding his 2-part series in the
sanctuary on this night
·
Journey
groups can meet offsite in a make-up meeting to compensate for some of the
Wednesdays we have missed
STUDENT
SURVEYS

TRIMESTER 3 CURRICULUM WORKAROUND
In week 9 of the 3rd trimester, the My Work Life video link is broken. The video message no longer exists at this point. I have called tech support to try and get a digital workaround in video or audio format. In the meantime, I have posted a transcript of the message for you to get a word-for-word transcript of the message so at least you will have that. This is one of the reasons in 2015 Pastor Ron will be re-doing all the videos in house so eliminate such issues. Thanks for your patience!
CELEBRATION DINNER FOR JOURNEY GRADUATES
On Wednesday, July 30th, four Journey groups will be graduating. In an effort to make this as special as possible, we will not be hosting our usual Celebration Service with snacks but will host a private catered dinner for the graduating students, coaches & interns of those four groups. This totals about 24 people. We will host this during the normal service time at the CLC house.
GRADUATION VIDEO TESTIMONIES
In preparation for this event, Dale, Christy, and David will be asking for g comments from each graduate via our cell phone video cameras. We will ask you a couple of questions to capture a few of your thoughts.
Let's all determine to finish this Summer Trimester strong!

SAYING GOODBYE
Kevin & Marcy Ricc's last Sunday at CLC will be this Sunday, June 15. Their son David, who completed the Journey and went to 4 Freedom Weekends, has already moved to North Carolina where the family will join him this weekend. Kevin & Marcy are asking for help in loading their moving vans this Friday evening and Saturday. They need to load 2 moving trucks in 48 hours. What an opportunity to lend a hand! This would be a perfect micro-mission for a Journey group, men or women.
We are trying to get a moving party together for FRI night & SAT morning. The Rice live at 3306 Robinwood Drive, Murfreesboro, TN 37128. Kevin's cell # is 615-481-1654.
If you would be willing to help, even for 1 hour, it would be awesome. Please RSVP to me at drobertson@clctn.org.
UNCLE DAVE MACON DAYS
Here is another incredible opportunity for individuals or groups to get directly involved in local missions. Pastor Ron has declared 2014 to be the Year of Missions, and UDMD are a prime opportunity to live out Matthew 5:16 and "let our light shine before that they may see our good works and glorify our Father in heaven." So far, we have had 6 people sign up. The City is asking for 200. Would you like to come out for 2 hours and make a difference? Click here.
DC HUDDLES
Dale Kelsey & Christy Sanford hosted the Summer Trimester Huddle at Panera Bread yesterday. What a great group of discipleship coaches we have! Thanks to everyone who participated and or contributing your ideas on taking the Journey from good to great!
GOOD TO GREAT
Now is your window to add your creativity and experience in our attempt to improve the Journey Discipleship Experience. People tend to support what they help create. That's why we want your ideas! Please email me your thoughts on how we can do better and take the Journey to the next level.
WEB SITE MAKEOVER
One good-to-great idea has already been implemented - the upgrade of the Journey web site. Check it out here.
CONNECTION ACTIVITIES
Bill & Holly Rawnsely are doing a great job coordinating connection activities for fun & fellowship. We are still responding to the 60-second survey that we released where folks told us what they would like to do to have fun with fellow CLCers. Well, now is your chance! You can see what's going on and get involved here.
THE BIG Q SURVEY
Check out how we are reaching out to Christian Lifers in an attempt to connect the dots between what they want or need and how we can serve them in the Journey. Check out the survey here.

CONNECTION WEEKEND A SUCCESS
Rejoicing in the great connections that were made at our first-ever Connection Weekend sponsored by the Journey.
Hats off to Bill & Holly Rawnsley, our Advisory Team members who oversee Connect Groups & connection activities. The Rawnsleys and their team of coordinators provided a chance for a bunch of people, included those brand new to CLC, to connect. I'm told the ladies had a great time at the "I Love Lucy Bible Study, the canoe trips were a big hit, the frisbee golf totally rocked out and the boys want to do it again asap, and the two coffee times at JoZoara's were well attended. Also, we had at least 55 couples/singles participate in the Lunch Buddy Surprise Sunday connection op. More fun times coming in June, July, and August.
JOURNEY WEB SITE MAKEOVER
Check out our newly overhauled Journey site complete with professionally designed artwork and a simplified interface. Click here to go there now.
UNCLE DAVID MACON DAYS
Over 30,000 people will flood into Murfreesboro for the #1 music festival of its kind in TN on July 11-13. The City is asking CLC to contribute about 100+ volunteers to help with hospitality, set up/take down, and prayer walking. This is a perfect "micro mission" for any Journey group to mobilize your troops and make a big difference in just a 2-hour volunteer window. You'll get free tickets, wear a special t-shirt, and get to serve God all at the same time. Please consider casting vision to your group to work the event together. To sign up for a time to volunteer that works with your schedule, click here.

TRIMESTER GOALS WORKSHEETS
Every member of each coaching group is expected to complete the Trimester Goals Worksheet. It is due this Wednesday but you can have one more week if needed.
Students, please do not skip this step. How will we know if you are growing spiritually if we cannot measure it? Are you making progress through the Big 5? Are you working with your coach to shore up any areas involving freedom, bad habits, establish new good habits, reading the Word more consistently, tithing, or receiving your prayer language? Please don't let this year be ordinary! You have been given an extraordinary opportunity to go as far as you want to go spiritually with the Lord and establish a super rock solid foundation.

DISCIPLESHIP EVANGELISM
Here's what was going on in the sanctuary last week while you were meeting in your coaching groups.
Last week, John King did a fabulous job introducing us to the Discovery Bible Study method that is revolutionizing the way people are sharing the gospel and making disciples - even among those that are illiterate.
John introduced 8 questions to us that you can use revolving around a single Bible passage with a small group of pre-saved people:
1. What happened last week for which you are thankful?
2. What challenge are you facing in your life, family, or community?
3. How did you obey, share and/or meet the need (not asked during the first session).
Take a passage and READ, RE-TELL, & TALK DETAILS
4. What do we learn about God in this passage?
5. What do we learn about humanity in this passage?
6. How will your life change when you put this passage into practice? (Answers will start with "I
will...")
7. Who else do you know who needs to hear this passage?
8. How can we help with one challenge? (see #2)
CONNECTION WEEKEND
Mark your calendars to come together as a church family on Friday (5/30), SAT (5/31), and SUN (6/1) for our Connection Weekend. This is a brand spanking new concept where we are hosting multiple activities this weekend to get us laughing, playing, and eating together as a community.

SUMMER TRIMESTER LAUNCH
Ready or not here we go! Game on! This WED, May 7th begins our Summer Trimester. We have 7 discipleship coaching groups resuming their weekly Journey meetings. For now, meet in the sanctuary for worship as usual at 6:30pm.
NEW DISCIPLESHIP COACHING MEETING LOCATIONS
As Pastor Ron announced, in the Year of Missions, our summer will look slightly different than in times past. Pastor Ron will be featuring some of his fellow pastors in town to come in to guest speak on a variety of topics relating to discipleship & missions. Given that the sanctuary will no longer be available this year for our discipleship coaching groups to meet, we have made provision for our groups to meet in the following areas starting this WED:
MAIN CHURCH BUILDING
Room 105 - Amanda Carroll's group
Room 106 - Cheryl Snyder's group
CLC HOUSE – LOWER LEVEL
Larry Wiley – front part of the big room (nearest the TV)
Chris Muller – back part of the big room (nearest the front door)
Mike Dugan – Kitchen table area
Adam Lindsay – Abbey Kairdolf’s office (has photocopier in it)
UPPER LEVEL
Mickie Porter – Jim’s office
CONNECT GROUPS TO REPLACE FELLOWSHIP GROUPS
Bill & Holly Rawnsely are our newest Advisory Team members who are in charge of our new Connect network. This includes connect groups which will replace our former fellowship groups. We are excited to roll out some new creative ideas to connect people at CLC to the life of the church. Look for new connection activities and events. We will be reaching out to our legacy leaders this summer with an update.
TRIMESTER GOALS WORKSHEETS
If you are in a Journey Discipleship coaching group, please be sure to turn in your Trimester Goals Worksheet. If you don't have one, see your coach this WED.
Please note they are due one week from the start of each trimester. Each group member needs to have one on file with his or her coach. These worksheets are a key tool to track the progressive growth of your progress through the Big 5. Please plan on discussing these in your weekly coaching call.

Enjoy this short devo by Tony Evans.
The problem with many Christians is that while they have made a
decision to become a Christian by trusting in Jesus Christ for their salvation,
they have not yet made a decision to become a disciple. They have not
surrendered their lives in such a way so as to be a committed follower of Jesus
Christ. The difference between a decision-maker and a follower is simply surrender.
What Paul is telling us in the passage of Romans 12:1,2 is that God wants us to present us to Him. He wants you to put you on the altar. You are to present your life – that means all of you – to Him on His altar. Keep in mind, in the Old Testament times when a sacrifice was placed on an altar, the Priest did not just put the head, or the arm, or a portion of the lamb on the altar. He put the entirety of the being on the altar. What too many believers have done is put a portion of their time, talents and treasures on God’s altar and assumed it is enough. It is not. God wants all of you to be given to Him.
In fact, throughout Scripture we read that anytime God wanted to do something big for His people, He always required a sacrifice first. There had to be something present that demonstrated sincerity and commitment. See, worship is not simply singing songs on a Sunday. True worship, as outlined in Romans 12, is giving yourself to God in your entirety. True worship includes surrender.

Please let us know how we can serve you best in your Journey Discipleship Experience.

SEEKER SERVICE
Two more Seeker Night opportunities in April before we move into our Summer Trimester. Come take a deep drink from the well of God's Spirit.
FREE TV's
Selling a TV to make a quick buck on Craigslist is easy. Instead of taking the easy (and more profitable) way out, a family at CLC is donating TVs in good working condition to whoever needs or wants one. All you have to do is come pick it up. First-come, first-served. Email me at drobertson@clctn.org if you are interested in receiving a free TV. There are 5 available
NEED HELP LOADING A U-HAUL
Marcus & Jenna Gall will be loading a U-Haul and heading to Colorado to start a new life on Tuesday, APR 29 at 9am. If we had 3-4 people show up we could load the trailer from their apartment in about an hour or two (max). If you would be willing to help the Gall's load up, please email me at drobertson@clctn.org. I will keep a running list.
Their address is: 910 Saint Andrews Drive | Apartment O-5 | Murfreesboro, TN 37128
FLASH ORCHESTRA MOB
My daughter from South Africa shared this with me and I thought it was just sensational. Click here to enjoy. (I had to stop and watch it all over again with tears in my eyes.)

SEEKER MONTH
Prime time to connect with your group members to come, gather, worship, and then go out for ice cream.
CONNECTION EVENTS A SUCCESS
The Men's Connection Breakfast hosted on MAR 29 and the Women's Connection Brunch hosted on APR 5 were very well attended. If people laughing, having fun, eating great food, and being exposed to connection opportunities constitutes success, well then I guess they were both successful! Watch for an announcement about our first Connection Saturday on May 31st!
JOURNEY CURRICULUM AUDIT IN PROCESS
If you have any ideas on how we could improve the Journey curriculum, please speak up now. I am presently collecting ideas to submit to Pastor Ron for our 2015 Journey re-launch. Email ideas to journey@clctn.org.
TONY & KRISSY BURCH MOVE
Tony & Krissy need help moving this TUE, APR 7 & WED, APR 8. We are trying to form to moving parties to work with work schedules. The Burches must vacate their home by WED night!
Please show up if you can at: 3358 Shady Forest Dive, Murfreesboro, TN 38128
If you can help, please text or call me (David Robertson) at 615-579-9778.
JOURNEY ADVISORY TEAM EXPANDS
I am pleased to announced that Bill & Holly Rawnsley have joined our Journey Advisory Team. Bill & Holly bring many years of ministry & professional experience to the team. They have also served as focus group leaders for 2 trimesters plus Bill serves on the Freedom Weekend leadership team. Bill & Holly also serve in Host Ministry and are on an executive committee with Pastor Jim for Host Ministry.
The Rawnsleys will be overseeing the Journey Fellowship Group Network, which Richard & Donna Detwiler were doing double-duty overseeing both the Focus Group Network & Fellowship Group Network over the past several trimesters. We appreciate the fine job that the Detwilers did, but we are all thankful to be able to raise up captains over the Fellowship Group Network to help shoulder that wonderful responsibility.
We will be re-launching fellowship groups in the Fall Trimester. The Rawnsely are very creative people and we are expecting to see some fresh ideas emerge to make our fellowship groups take new life in the Fall Trimester so stay tuned.

A MOM NEEDS HELP
Shelley Jefsen (and hubby Jay & their 3 small children) are long-time friends of CLC and are moving back to TN from OK. This SAT, MAR 22, at 9am, Shelley needs help loading a full-size U-Haul truck from their storage unit located at StorPlace of Stones River - 310 North Thompson Lane, Murfreesboro, TN 37129.
We need a team to load up the U-Haul and then a team to unload the U-Haul at their home at 111 Platte Drive, Christiana, TN 37037.
This would make a great micro-mission for any coaching group, focus group, or fellowship group. We need all hands on deck! Shelley's husband, Jay, is still working his final days at his old job in OK, so Shelley could really use the church family to lend a helping hand.
If you or your group would be willing to help with the LOAD UP THE U-HAUL portion of the move or the UNLOAD THE U-HAUL at the new house portion of the move, that would be great. I am trying to coordinate this for Shelley, so please email David here if you would be willing to help.

LOCAL HEROES
Chase & Veronica Wilson, the husband & wife team who are both in the Journey, just got water baptized this past Sunday! Woo hoo! In an email interview, Veronica says:
"When I told Chase I wanted to get baptized he said he wanted to do it with me. I thought that was perfect for us. He had already been baptized when he was younger so for him it was more of a re-confirmation. We started the Journey group together and although we still have a long way to go we have both grown so much already, as individuals and as a couple. We feel like getting baptized together not only showed our commitment to God, but it also was a way to symbolize our commitment to continue our walk with God together as a couple and as a family."
VISITING DIGNITARIES
Tonight Pastor Jim will pick up a team of 4 at the airport arriving from their long, long flight from Budapest, Hungary. Istvan, Paul Henderson, Zoli, and Joseph will be our special guests for 2 weeks. They will be taking a closer look at the Journey on this trip. If you recall, Pastor Ron sent me, Jim, Jason Ford, and Dean Luketic to Budapest to the Agape Network of Churches to represent the Journey. Istvan is the apostolic father of this large network of churches.
GRADUATING COACHES
We will be hosting a Victory Breakfast for our DC coaches & interns on MAR 29 to honor them for completing an entire year as Journey coaches. Please throw an "attaboy" or "attagirl" at the following folks next time you see them:
It looks like Grow Series 1 - "Developing the Leader Within You" may be offered next in the Fall Trimester. The Advisory Team will make a final decision this Thursday in our bi-weekly webinar. What this means is that the Journey grads from the above mentioned 4 groups will get to enjoy the summer off and be registered for GS1 in SEP in the Fall Trimester. Coaches: please get final confirmations from your group members in this matter this week please and report it to your coaching captain. We are building a class roster for David & Deanna Fullerton.
H.O.T COMMUNICATION
by Dale Kelsey, DC Men Coaching Captain
Honest, Open and Transparent communication - this should be what we strive for in our discipleship
groups. It’s the very basis of a long lasting, close relationship between two people. All three elements are equally important and absolutely necessary to create that relationship and allow it to grow. This is also the exact kind of relationship our Heavenly Father wishes to have with us!
If we take a look at each of these elements, I think it will be become clearer on what I mean:
Honest – We are talking TRUTH here. Not half truths, not partial truths, but complete truth. John 8:31-32 says,
31
Jesus said to the Jews who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you
remain faithful to my teaching.
32
Then you will know the truth, and the truth will
set you free.” CEB
Jesus tells the Jews three things in these verses. First he tells them to remain faithful in what he has told them. Second he states that if they do remain faithful, they will know the truth. And finally, he tells them that Truth will set them free.
Honesty is the WHAT of a conversation – the words that are actually spoken. Now this doesn’t mean
just rip all the filters off and let everything you think fly out of your mouth. But being honest does mean speaking the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
Open – To be open with someone in conversation defines HOW the conversation is being conveyed
more than the words themselves. If I am speaking openly about a subject then I am laying it all out
there on the table, I’m not keeping anything in. It does NOT mean that I’m doing it in front of everyone or that everyone should know about it! It simply means that what I’m about to say comes from my heart and I’m saying it in Love to make you a better person - to give you freedom.
Jesus, even though he taught in parables, was very open when he spoke. He never pulled any punches and meant every single word that came forth from his mouth. Being open also allows the person to which you are speaking to say their part as well. It’s a two way street with the communication going in both directions.
Transparent – being transparent, much like being open also conveys the manner in which you are
speaking. If something is transparent, you can see through it to what is on the other side. Whatever is transparent still has substance, it’s still a tangible thing, just cannot be seen with the eye.
Transparent conversation means that you can look past the words I am using and see the heart from which they are coming from…the motive if you will. Transparency is very much centered on the WHY of a conversation.

MICRO MISSIONS IDEA
The just-released "Son of God" movie is a great Year of Missions outreach opportunity for all Journey groups. Why not take your group and invite some people who are not in church to go with you? Maybe you could go out for coffee afterwards and have some amazing conversation with people who don't know Jesus.
For a movie review from Focus on the Family's Plugged In Online web site, click here.

- Kacey Randolph
- Rebekah Streich
- Mackenzie Pritchett
- Amy Ford
- Betsey Willis
- Todd Hooper
- Ben Pritchett

WEEK 8
Well gang, here we are in week 8 of 12! The Winter Olympics in Sochi is over and we are winding down our Winter Trimester as well! Let's finish strong!
THE JOURNEY CONFERENCE
This week, from TUE-THU, 8 pastors and church staff will be traveling from Texas, Pennsylvania, and Kentucky to meet with us to learn how to launch the Journey in their own churches. Please pray for the Advisory Team as we do our best to share the good things that God has done at CLC through the Journey in the lives of so many amazing people. Heads up on WED and THUR nights, you may see a small group of people touring your area to observe your ministry.
Hospitality will be provided by Jennifer Forgy.
THE EAGLE HAS LANDED
A few weeks ago I shared a web site with you that Richard Detwiler showed me that has a live web cam on an eagle's nest in Georgia where the female eagle had laid 2 eggs. Well, a least one eaglet has hatched.
4 DC GROUPS GRADUATING FROM THE JOURNEY
At our Celebration Service scheduled for March 26, 4 discipleship coaching groups will be graduating! They include:
GROW SERIES 1 APPLICATION
Each Journey graduate is encouraged to enroll in GS1. If we have enough students to warrant it, we will host GS1 during the Summer Trimester, otherwise we will enroll all graduates into the Fall Trimester later this year. Graduates can apply for the GS1 course at this link here.
THE JOURNEY MINUTE
We are armed and dangerous with smartphone video cameras and want 60-seconds of your time as a Journey student. Don't be surprised if a member of the Advisory Team whips out their camera and asks for your thoughts about your Journey experience. The Journey Minute videos will be posted on our Journey YouTube Channel and embedded into our blogs.

Half way through our 12-week trimester! Can you believe it? Press on!
HOLD THE ROPE IN PRAYER!
Please remember Pastor Ron & Kerri and Larry & Pam Wiley as they are ministering for 2 weeks in India. Next time you say grace over your meal, breathe a prayer for them.
THE BIG 2 QUESTIONS IN DISCIPLESHIP
Kenneth Winslow, one of our fellowship group leaders, posted this outstanding excerpt from an interview with Joel Rosenberg on discipleship. It's short but relevant. The man that discipled him posed 2 key questions for all disciples. Watch the clip at this link here.

VISITING TEAMS ARE COMING TO CLC
I am working at present with three churches who will be sending delegations to come to our church to study the Journey and interview our leaders in February & March. We are humbled that the Lord's hand is on the Journey Discipleship Experience and we are eager to share what we have learned with others to help as many as possible become fully devoted followers of Christ.
